Hazlet Citizen News-Sept.24-1400

September 24, 2021

Some nice improvements are coming to a busy corner in town!

Hazlet Township applied for and was awarded a $220,000 grant toward the installation of a sidewalk along Middle Road and Union Avenue. The new sidewalk runs from Green Acres Drive on Middle Road to Green Acres Drive on Union Avenue.

The walkway is part of the Township Committee's vision to make this wooded corner a welcoming pedestrian gateway to Veterans Park. A digital sign will replace the old signboard. There are plans for a landscaped seating area and the installation of an attractive town clock. Keep watching the progress. The project should be completed by November.

Hazlet Day is Coming Saturday, Oct. 2

Join the Hazlet Township Committee and the Recreation Advisory Council volunteers for Hazlet Day 2021 on Saturday, October 2. The rain date is Oct. 3.

The event will be held outdoors at Veterans Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Hazlet Day brings our town together, and there is something for everyone," said Mayor Tara Clark. "We invite all Hazlet residents, and especially our newest residents, to come and enjoy this fun special day."

For the little ones, there will be a petting zoo with a cow, donkey and goats, and a cute choo-choo train ride in the park. Big kids will love the challenging inflatables like the Extreme Run Slide, Wrecking Ball and Bungee Trampoline & Rockwall Combo

Everyone can compete against each other at The Rock N Roll Race Cars a game of remote controlled cars on a Super Speedway. "We are so excited to welcome back the Rock N Roll race cars," said Recreation Director Chris McManus. "The crowd loves them, and its a really fun thing for parents and kids to do together."

All the amusements are free.

Over 50 Hazlet-community organizations have signed up to come to the fair. They included businesses, crafters, and vendors. There will be 8 food trucks, offering exciting treats and sandwiches. The first responders and volunteers will greet residents and show off their shiny trucks.

Throughout the day there will be entertainment by sensational Perna Dance Studio, precision United Martial Arts and the classic cover band band Time After Time. There will be a professional pumpkin carver demonstrating his art on large pumpkins, and offering tips for home carvers as he goes.

The Monmouth County Health Department will offer free COVID vaccines and education at the Cullen Center.

On festival day, drivers must enter Veterans Park through Green Acres Drive. (The Union Avenue entrance will be closed.)

Remembering 9/11, 20 Years Later

Hazlet Township came together for a moving tribute on the 20th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11. With a large crowd expected, the ceremony was moved to the gazebo at Veterans Park. Firefighters created a stunning display with ladders and the American Flag, through which the Police Honor Guard and Raritan High School Marching Band arrived. Police Chaplain Barry Mulligan offered a poignant prayer, and Mayor Tara Clark gave a speech on the theme of never forgetting.  It was a somber and dignified ceremony. Many remarked on how moving it was to stand together and reflect, with candles lighting the darkness. A video of the event can be seen on Facebook, courtesy of the RHS Marching Band.
