Fall Foliage
Trick or Treat!
It's looking good for Hazlet kids who plan to dress up and go door-to-door this Halloween. The holiday falls on Sunday, the weather after 2 pm looks clear and many Hazlet parents are excited for this return to tradition and fun. By local ordinance, kids should be home by 8 pm unless under the supervision of a parent or guardian. There are exceptions.
Election Day
In-person early voting on machines at the James J. Cullen Community Center continues through Sunday, October 31. Hours are Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Election Day, you may vote in your assigned polling location. Visit the county elections website.
Hazlet Got Soaked
A powerful nor'easter dumped 4.55 inches of rain on Hazlet Tuesday, Oct. 26, sweeping Hazlet into one of the top spots in the state for inundation. There was street flooding as some creeks temporarily overflowed. The local NBC News station came to take video and interview Hazlet Police Chief Ted Wittke about the situation in town. See the video report. There was also coverage in the Asbury Park Press, Patch, and other publications.
De-Clutter Your Desk
Got unwanted documents you need to shred? On Saturday, Oct. 30 the county shredding truck will be at 1400 Florence Avenue, Union Beach between 9 am and 1 pm or until the truck is stuffed. More info.
November 2 Closures
Tuesday, November 2 is Election Day, a state holiday. Township closures include Town Hall, the DPW Yard on Leocadia Court, Municipal Court, Library & Monmouth County Library System. Hazlet public schools are in recess. The US Post Office will be open.
Make Plans for Thanksgiving Feast
Hazlet Recreation is taking RSVPs for the annual free Thanksgiving Community Dinner offered by the RAINE Foundation. Three seatings, at 4, 5 and 6 pm. The 4 pm seating is reserved for Hazlet senior clubs. Transportation is available if needed. More info.

Hazlet Library's November children's calendar includes storytime on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a Take 'N Make craft called Squirrels Love Acorns and Cute as a Pumpkin Pie. There will be a live Fun with Magic show with Steve Woyce on Thursday, Nov. 4. Registration Required.

Docket: Digital Vaccination Card
Docket is a new app from the NJ Department of Health that makes it easier for to securely access your COVID-19 vaccination record. If you don't have your vaccination card with you or you have lost it, you can easily access your record through the app to provide proof of COVID-19 immunizations as needed. Learn more.

Community groups and nonprofits seeking free meeting room space have options! Call the Hazlet Library to reserve a time. There are also opportunities to reserve space at the James J. Cullen Community Center. See the Permits tab at the Recreation registration website.
Halloween Bonfire Fun
Hundreds of Hazlet families gathered Saturday evening, Oct. 23 at Leocadia Court Park for a new tradition: the Hazlet Halloween Bonfire. It was a fun, outdoor event with Trunk or Treat, ghost story readings by our local teachers, demos and truck displays by the first responders, spooky music, a barbecue food truck and candy sales by a high school team. The bonfire was lit at 6:30 pm and continued until the event's end at 9 pm under the supervision of Hazlet firefighters. Hazlet Recreation plans to bring the event back next year.

Halloween Bonfire Saturday
The bonfire is ready to be lit Saturday evening, Oct. 23 at Leocadia Court Park (off Laurel Avenue). Join Hazlet Recreation for family-friendly Halloween fun under the moon. There will be unusual characters, glowing gifts for the kiddos and a Trunk or Treat, ghost story readings by our local talent, demos and truck displays by the first responders, spooky music, a costume parade, a barbecue food truck and candy sales by a high school team. The bonfire will be lit around 6:45 pm and continue until the event's end at 9 pm under the supervision of Hazlet firefighters. Park at Lillian Drive School and take continuous shuttle bus. Garbage Collection Survey Ends 10/22
The Mayor & Township Committee request that residents complete a brief survey to provide information on their current waste collection provider/services and offer opinions on whether they would be interested in moving to municipal garbage collection. Only one survey should be submitted per household. The survey period ends October 22. Paper copies are available in the Town Hall lobby. Fill out the survey at HazletTwp.org/GarbageSurvey. To date, more than 1345 responses were submitted electronically.
New Fitness Class
Boot Camp with Frankie is back! Classes will be held Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 am at the Cullen Center. All levels welcome. Sign up with Hazlet Recreation. Keep an eye out for more classes coming soon to the schedule.
Successful Buy & Sell Saturday
We were so lucky the rain held off for our Fall Town-Wide Garage Sale / Hazlet Library Used Book Sale on Saturday, Oct. 16. It was a great turnout, with more than 146 households hosting front yard sales! Lots of books found new homes too, raising several hundred dollars for Hazlet Library Commission projects. Thanks to the volunteers who worked hard to make it a success.
Bayshore to the Rescue
Bayshore Medical Center President Frank Citara came to Hazlet's soccer club Saturday to donate a lifesaving defibrillator. The $2000 Zoll AED Plus is equipped with adult and pediatric pads. Also present for the generous gift were Hazlet United Soccer Association President Ralph Troisi; club board members and administrators Marc Forgarty, Ed Young and George Theis; Monmouth County Commissioner Sue Kiley and Hazlet Mayor Tara Clark.
Special Needs Registry Day
Hazlet Police held a successful Open House to introduce its members to the Hazlet special needs community. Everyone got to make connections and have a little fun. They were joined by vendors offering services, therapy and food. They hope to make this an annual event.

New Hazlet Landmark Underway
A busy, congested corner in town is undergoing a long-planned transformation to become a welcoming gateway to Veterans Park while providing pedestrian safety for children, part of a longtime planning vision for Hazlet. Read more about the project.
Welcome Costco Gas
Today was the first day of business for the new Costco fueling station at 2835 Route 35 North in Hazlet. The crew gave the thumbs up, excited to welcome new customers to the spot where Bertucci's once operated. Costco Gas is open to all motorists. Payment is by Costco Shop Card or Visa debit/credit (no cash.) Access the station by entering the plaza entrance. Read the Costco Gas FAQ for more details.

Halloween Bonfire Announced
Don't miss the first Halloween Bonfire hosted by Hazlet Recreation!
Come out on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Leocadia Court Park (off Laurel Avenue) for family-friendly fun. Wear your costume!
Come at 5:30 4 pm to hear ghost stories and visit the Touch a Truck display and Trunk or Treat. The bonfire will be lit around 6:45 pm and continue until the event' s end at 9 pm, under the supervision of Hazlet firefighters.

Community Center Reopens
This week, senior club meetings resumed at the James J. Cullen Center after a long pause for the pandemic. Many came out and enjoyed the company of friends while making plans for the future.
The independent nonprofit clubs welcome new members 55 years old or older. Learn more.
Other nonprofit groups can now reserve rooms by the hour at the Cullen Center for meetings, classes and activities. There is no fee. To reserve a room, please visit our online system. After creating an account, you can book a time on the calendar. Your request will be reviewed by Hazlet Recreation for approval and a permit.

Hazlet Day is Saturday, Oct. 2....How to Vote in General Election....Garbage Collection Survey Launched
Hazlet Day is Saturday!
The stage is set for Hazlet Day 2021 on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free kids' activities, many tents to visit, food trucks, and Hazlet-area organizations to meet, all in beautiful Veterans Park, 1776 Union Avenue. The weather looks great!
For the little ones, there will be a petting zoo and a cute choo-choo train ride in the park. Big kids will love the challenging inflatables like the Extreme Run Slide, Wrecking Ball and Bungee Trampoline & Rockwall Combo. There will also be popular The Rock N Roll Racing game.
Over 50 Hazlet-community organizations have signed up to come to the fair. They included nonprofits, businesses, crafters, and vendors and first responders with their trucks.
Throughout the day there will be performances by United Martial Artist Academy (11:30 am to noon), Perna Dance Studio (12:30 to 1 pm), professional pumpkin carving (1 to 3 pm) and the music duo Time After Time (3 to 4:30 pm).
Look for the food trucks! There will be ice cream, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches.
The Monmouth County Health Department will be at the Cullen Center to offer free COVID vaccines and education at the Cullen Center.
On festival day, drivers must enter Veterans Park through Green Acres Drive. (The Union Avenue entrance will be closed.) We expect a lot of cars, so please try to carpool or come by foot, if possible. It's a good opportunity to try out the brand new sidewalks on Middle Road and Union Avenue!
