Freedom Park To Open, Haunted House Weekend, Natco Park Guided Tour
Freedom Park Opens Saturday!
All are invited to the grand opening of the new, state-of-the-art Freedom Park in West Keansburg at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The ceremonial ribbon will be cut following brief words of celebration.
The new park, designed with input from the community, features picnic benches, a walking path, two playgrounds, a swing set, a multisport court for volleyball and Pickleball and a basketball court,
The new playground equipment from BCI Burke of Wisconsin is designed to be inclusive because its creates fun opportunities for kids of varying abilities to play together. Take a look in the photos below!
Parking is limited at 8th Street and Brown Avenue, so please park on the side streets and walk over. Hazlet Police will help with traffic.

Hazlet Haunted House - Oct. 27, 28 & 29
Hazlet Recreation and the Raritan High School Performing Arts Academy students are turning the James J. Cullen Center into a Haunted House! "Spooky" tours are offered Friday, Oct 27 & Saturday, Oct. 28 from 7-10 pm. The "Not So Spooky" tour is Sunday, Oct 29 from 6-8 pm. Free Entry.

National Prescription Drug Take Back
The Hazlet Alliance and the Hazlet Police want you to get rid of expired medications safely and properly. Together we can keep deadly and addictive medications out of the wrong hands. A Drop Box will be available at the James J. Cullen Center, 1776 Union Ave., on November 16 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Hazlet Senior Center
The Hazlet Senior Center November Newsletter is out! Check out the classes for Pickleball, Zumba Gold, Paint with Soul, Chair Yoga and Foundation of Drawing. Special events include a Wine Glass Painting Party on Nov. 2, a Jewelry Party on Nov. 8 and trips to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse and Tennessee. Inside, you can also find a schedule and the Meals on Wheels November menu.
Monmouth County Archives & History Day is Oct. 28
The public is invited to attend the County Clerk's Archives and History Day Saturday, October 28 at Brookdale Community College Collins Arena. The free event celebrates our local and State history.
This year’s event will highlight business and industry of Monmouth County and will feature a printed materials, presentations, and over 50 representatives from local historical societies and museums. William M. Gorman of Monmouth University’s Department of History will give the keynote address.

Safe Sitter Course Offered
This popular course is back! It will be offered on February 16, a day public schools are closed. This course is for participants ages 11-14. They will learn how to:
- How to keep the children and themselves safe.
- How to entertain children and prevent danger.
- How to call for emergency help.
- How to prevent injuries and basic first aid.
- What to do when a child is choking or stops breathing.
It will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the James J. Cullen Center, 1776 Union Ave. Space is limited. Sign up to reserve a spot today or call 800-560-9990. Fee $40. Sponsored by Hackensack Meridian Health.

Bonfire Event Moved to Sunday,
Freedom Park Opens Soon, Friends of Library Forming
Introducing Freedom Park
Hazlet's all-new public park at 8th Street and Brown Avenue in the West Keansburg section will soon formally open. It has a new name, too. The park will now be known as Freedom Park.
The Grand Opening Ceremony will be attended by members of the Township Committee, Monmouth County Commissioners and Hazlet Open Space Advisory Council. The park was accomplished with contributions from public open space funds. Also attending will be the local resident committee that offered suggestions and research on accessible playgrounds. The Recreation Advisory Committee will also be present.
Mayor Michael Sachs invites everyone to visit the newly renovated park to stroll the walking path, play a game in the ball courts or simply enjoy sitting on a bench with neighbors. "Decades ago I played in this park, and I'm thrilled today to see its renewal for the new generation."

Hazlet Police Special Needs Open House
On Saturday, Oct. 21, Hazlet Police will host the Special Needs Open House inside headquarters at 255 Middle Road. Meet officers and special guests who have valuable resources and insight that can assist with your loved one and their future.

- Monmouth County Sheriff's Office Project Life Saver
- POAC Autism Services
- Blue Bridge Autism Training
- Law Office of Tina M. James
- Friends Grow Friends Foundation, Inc.

Anyone with a loved one who has special needs is welcome to attend. This is not just for Hazlet residents.

Halloween Bonfire - Sunday Oct. 22 (New Date!)
The 2023 Hazlet Halloween Bonfire will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at Leocadia Court Park on the rain date of Sunday, Oct. 22. Join us in costume for fall-themed outdoor festivities under the moon including Trunk or Treat, There will be live music, trunk or treat, entertainment, food vendors, and crafters. The Hazlet Bonfire will be lit at nightfall (around 6 pm) under the supervision of the Hazlet Township firefighters. Free admission. Hazlet First Aid, located across from the park, will demonstrate a car extrication.
Due to space limitations, there is no visitor parking at the park for this event. Please walk down Leocadia Court (off Laurel Avenue) or park at nearby Lillian Drive School, 28 Lillian Drive, to take the free continuous shuttle bus.

Friends of the Library
This is National "Friends of the Library Week." Hazlet is forming its own Friends group to support our library at 251 Middle Road. Please reach out to Head Librarian Jennifer Brennan to learn more at 732-264-7164. The volunteers recently held a Book Sale at the Library to raise funds for improvements.

Library Parking Lot Construction, New Benches at Pickleball Courts, Garage Sale is on for Saturday
Library Parking Area
A new parking area is under construction in front of the Hazlet Library. Five new parking spaces will be added. Two of them will be ADA and three will be regular parking. There will also be upgrades to some ADA ramps at the library. These photos were taken Friday, Oct. 13.
Town-Wide Garage Sale & Library Book Sale - Saturday, Oct. 14
The Hazlet Township Garage Sale is ON for Saturday, October 14. We have looked at several weather forecast discussions and believe this is our best option, considering the weekend weather. We hope you have a great sale day! There are 124 addresses on the interactive Google Map. (Use the controls on the left hand side to access addresses.) There will also be a Book Sale at Hazlet Library until 1 p.m. to raise funds for improvements. Happy Garage Sale-ing!
New Benches, Signage at Ball Courts
New benches have been installed at the Pickleball & Tennis Courts at Hazlet's Veterans Park, off Green Acres Drive. The Pickleball & Tennis Courts are very busy. On Friday morning, there were five games in play.

Voting in the Nov. 7 General Election
The Monmouth County Clerk is reminding residents that there are three ways to vote in the November 7 General Election:
- Vote by Mail Ballot
- Early In-Person Voting at Designated Polling Locations, October 28 to November 5
- At Your Neighborhood Polling Location on November 7, Election Day

100 Garage Sales, Halloween Events, 3 Ways to Vote in November Election
8th Street Park Improvements
Installation of new sodding, fencing and color coating of the sports courts is underway as part of the 8th Street Park Improvement Plan. This photo was taken Friday, October 6. The park is located at the corner of 8th Street and Brown Avenue in the West Keansburg section of Hazlet and is not yet open to the public.
Town-Wide Garage Sale is Oct. 14
Over 100 households are looking forward to making a little cash and freeing up some room by hosting a Garage Sale on Saturday, Oct. 14! Sign up on the township website with your address and items to get listed on the free Google Map. There will also be a Book Sale at Hazlet Library, listed on the map. The township organizes the free Hazlet Town-Wide Garage Sale in October and April every year. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 15.
Rabies Clinic is Saturday, Oct. 7
Hazlet Township will be conducting a free Rabies Clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Dept. of Public Works building, located at 39 Leocadia Court, off Laurel Avenue, in Hazlet. All animals must be on a leash or in a carrier.
