[ARCHIVED] Letter From Mayor Glackin on Memorial Day Ceremony

Memorial Day 2020

Due to the health crisis, the township ceremony is canceled.

Dear Residents,

Hazlet Recreation has been proud to host a Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park for over 25 years that has included VFW Post 4303, guest speakers from Fort Dix, the Hearts of New Jersey Chorus, local scout groups, senior clubs, Hazlet first responders and local youth athletic organizations. This well-attended event brings together our Hazlet community in a solemn ceremony to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in protecting our country and way of life.

Unfortunately, given the pandemic, the ceremony this year is canceled.

Memorial wreaths will still be placed at the park. Please know the park is open for individuals to visit and reflect upon those who sacrificed their lives for our country. When visiting the park, please remember to keep distance between you and others.

We are looking forward to sharing a special Memorial Day tribute video in production by Raritan High School students.

This week, the township DPW workers set out flags along Union Avenue, Middle Road, Hazlet Avenue and Florence Avenue. We encourage residents to show their patriotism too, by decorating their homes with the red white and blue and pausing for a moment of reflection on Monday, May 25.
