Free tree Giveaway

Hazlet residents can pick up free tree seedlings in a special giveaway being held on Sunday, May 31. The NJ Tree Recovery Campaign aims to replace trees lost in Super Storm Sandy. Seedlings come from the NJ Forest Service and will be distributed by the Hazlet Environmental Commission.

Offerings include:  

1. MOCKERNUT HICKORY - A large, long-lived shade tree.
2. NORTHERN RED OAK - NJ’s State Tree. Large shade tree that produces acorns. Hazlet’s Environmental Commissioner’s private stock. 
3. REDBUD - Medium sized shade tree with rosy pink flowers that appear in April
4. CORNELIAN CHERRY - Small tree with yellow follows in April
5. PERSIMMON - Medium sized tree. Fragrant flowers in Spring then small edible fruits that can get messy on sidewalks.
