A Code Blue Alert has been issued for tonight, Monday, February 8th through Sunday, February 14th.
During a code blue, emergency shelters are opened to people who are homeless when temperatures drop below freezing. Due to COVID-19, public safety officials have the ability to place eligible people in one of six participating "Motel Warming Centers." In today's announcement, clients that are currently lodged in motels provided by the county can have their stay extended if they choose to do so.
Anyone who needs shelter can call:
- Hazlet Police at 732-264-6565 or their local police department. The police will coordinate assistance and transportation.
- Monmouth County Division of Social Services at 732-431-6000, ext. 4613 during business hours, and 732-431-6000 during non-business hours.
- NJ's 2-1-1 helpline, or 877-652-1148 to connect to local resources.
In addition, residents are being asked to check on elderly neighbors and to limit the outdoor activity of pets. If an individual must be outdoors, avoid over exertion, keep dry and wear several layers of loose-fitting clothes. While traveling, make sure that someone knows your route and schedule and have a winter survival kit, including a blanket, in your vehicle.
